WORK IN PROGRESS — LAUNCHING SOON
We all know what it takes to design a good consumer-facing app. The rules, while hard to stick to, are simple enough. Don’t make the user think, promote recognition over recall, emulate recognisable design patterns, and so on.Designing complex applications, however, is a different ballgame. Users of these kinds of apps require a different sort of experience. Generally speaking, they spend 8-12 hours a day, every day, in their chosen applications. This means not only do interfaces need to work with precise mouse pointers and high-definition displays, they also need to accommodate working as efficiently as possible.Cursor Chat is a deep dive into applications like these. We’ll look at the principles required and the tactics used when designing complex software — by speaking to leading designers at the companies that make that software.
